Chapter 12 - Three Words

Chapter 12 – Three Words

"My heart will seek no one"

She heard the truck pull up.  It came to a stop so quick that there was skidding sound from the gravel.  She jumped! “When did I become so easily startled?” she thought. "He will catch me looking at the picture if she didn't snap out of it."  How she wanted him to just grab her, hold her, say those words, those three damned words that say so much, but say nothing at all if there is no intent or action behind them.  She had been fooled by those three words before.  “Hasn’t everyone?”

Those three words were more of a manipulation for some that an attempt to commit.  She thought back to prior conversations.  Daily she received those words in text messages that came across the miles.  She did not want to read them anymore, she needed to touch them.  To gently place her tender fingers in the lines upon his face as he said it to her over and over again.  A daily affirmation that is what she wanted.  Anything less was nothing more than words, and words were mere ways to convince, and not ways to soothe.

“Are you here?” A loud troubled voice rang through the front door of the house.  The torn screen slammed!  Not so much out of anger, but due to the broken spring that has a purpose, the purpose?  To prevent the door from breaking!  Maybe that is what the three words actually are springs on our hearts.  Those words protect us from becoming broken from overuse.

“I, I am in here, I was listening to…”

“That’s okay, hey let’s get outta here.  I want to take you out for dinner, come on, let’s go, Bayyyybe!”

There was a spring in his step, her heart was glad.  She would get to show him that she was still the beautiful girl he fell for. “Oh, really?  Well, let me freshen up a little, and change clothes.”

“Why, you are fine as you are.”

Why do men always say that? They will tell a girl she is perfect and then as soon as she is not aware of it, his eyes go to the perfectly quaffed girl that walks in.  She didn’t want to think that way.  It had caused so many fights in the past.  There were moments when she swore she became invisible.  Someone would walk in the room and represent his past. She swore that is what it was either that or she just wasn’t it.  He would become oblivious to her presence.  She could not let that insecurity loom over the whole night.  He was right, they needed to get out of there, go out have a good time. She was hungry anyway, and he was in a very puffed up up mood. “Maybe he is glad I am back?” and she sighed.
